Still on my own, I continued moving around Barcelona. On a tip from a very lost fellow American I checked out some Roman ruins beneath a section of the Gothic quarter. It is cool that they still exist beneath the streets and that archaeologists can identify the utility of various structures, but I wouldn’t go as far as suggesting it’s a superior site to La Sagrada as my recommender proclaimed. I also went to the Mercat dels Encants, a large flea market type place selling pretty much exactly everything in the world that I’m not looking for. Except for a cupcake.
I also further explored Montjuic, walking half lost up the hill but eventually finding my way inside Catalonia’s National Art Museum, the Olympic Stadium, and past the Torre Calatrava, with a stop for some bouldering at the indoor gym Climbat: Foixarda. Here I also stumbled upon some outdoor climbing opportunities in a very unique tunnel next to artificial cliff faces.
